POWERSOUTH ANNOUNCES PLANS TO LOWER POINT A LAKE

PowerSouth will lower the water level in Point A Lake beginning Sept. 15, 2017, to allow for maintenance to the Point A Hydroelectric Dam. The lake will be lowered slowly over about two weeks’ time.

Property owners who plan to construct or repair docks, piers, seawalls, boat ramps and other structures during the drawdown are required to obtain a permit by contacting PowerSouth’s Corporate Real Estate Department at (334) 427-3000. Property owners should begin the permitting process early because the approval could take six weeks or more.

Permitted construction activities may begin after Oct. 4.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation with the permitting process and construction schedule,” said Baynard Ward, PowerSouth Corporate Communications Manager.

The drawdown is scheduled to last until mid-December.

“Safety is PowerSouth’s top priority, and we urge the public to exercise safety around the lake and the dam at all times, especially during the drawdown,” Ward said.
